Long-term availability of digital objects causes new challenges. Several aspects must be considered in order to guarantee log-term access to the digital resources. A fundamental requirement is the use of Persisent Identifiers (PIs) which assure unequivocal resource an reliable addressing. PIs are necessary step along the way to ensure a "shelf-mark" for distributed internal resources, aiding in mechanism by which resources can be related to one another in a stable way
