Patch antennas (rectangular micro-strip antennas) are getting more popular as communication technology improves. Due to the use of printed circuit techniques we are able to etch the required antenna on a PCB board, fabricating antennas on compliant substrates which is able to withstand high pressure and harsh environment. As communication equipments are getting smaller, taking on different shapes and sizes, patch antennas are light weighted, low-profile, conformal thus able to be mount on easily, low in manufacturing cost and are able to integrate with microwave integrated circuits as well therefore it is suitable to be used in communication systems.
