Image processing or modification for the purpose of restoration, transmission (with/without data compression) and/or recognition of the images or its components, in the Optical Fourier Domain is referred to as Fourier Optical Signal Processing (FOSP). Pattern Recognition or to that extend Image Compression to date, for real-time applications have not been “solved” fully by either a digital or optical processing. However, new algorithms and devices have made promising ways for a hybrid optical/digital system, in the form that is ready to translate into a practical solution.RP 06/9
