Energy politics has been a point of contention since the oil crisis of 1970. Neorealism dominates the energy research theoretical framework focusing on the role of state actors and their interests in terms of energy security. (Borovsky & Trachuk , 2015) Ever since then, states are beginning to switch from traditional energy sources to renewable energy (RE) for better energy security and to respond to environment changes mainly in association with global climate.
