Case study of a youth church community : organizational dynamics and its implications

Many youth communities of megachurches in Singapore are organized based on the educational journey of their youths, coupled with a dynamic vision for the community. Given these characteristics, this paper seeks to understand the implications of being embedded in such a spiritual community on the lives of these youths. I focused my study on one such community, where I interviewed 15 youths from this body who attend local universities. I also conducted participant observations at several of the youth church activities. This study found that the community provides important secular benefits by acting as an unrivalled stable network for academic resources and the acquisition of tangible and intangible skills. However, its organizational dynamics also result in negative impacts on the social relations within the church.Bachelor of Art
