Organic electronic devices based on β-diketonate lanthanide complexes

Lanthanide β-diketonates are the most popular and the most intensively investigated lanthanide coordination compounds. They have attracted intense research on their application as luminescent material in organic light emitting diodes. Their antenna chromophores behaviour enhances energy harvesting of lanthanide emissions owing to their high internal quantum efficiency. As part of lanthanide β-diketonates, Ln(DBM)3Bath or tris(dibenzoylmethanato)-mono(bathophenanthroline) lanthanide (III) is very well known as electroluminescent material due to high performance of red electroluminescent material Eu(DBM)3Bath. Here, we present the synthesis procedure of Ln(DBM)3Bath complexes with europium, erbium and neodymium as central metal ion. Further characterizations using NMR, absorption and luminescence studies were done in order to study the synthesized lanthanide complexes. Moreover, previous study on the modulated infrared electroluminescence based on those complexes was also reported. Using space charge limited current method, carrier mobility for each material was studied extensively. Further study on organic photovoltaic diodes containing Ln(DBM)3Bath complexes was presented systematically utilizing N,N’-Bis(3-methylphenyl)-N,N’-bis(phenyl)-bezidine or TPD as electron donor and Ln(DBM)3bath as electron acceptor.Bachelor of Science in Physic
