With an increasing number of migrants stemming from global flows, Singaporean youths must tussle for jobs in a competitive landscape. This is coupled with a rising cost of living of being in Singapore. Being part of the next generation to live in Singapore, youths are undeniably anxious. Through an empirical study of Singapore, I offer analysis to how youths conceptualise belonging, and how economic well being plays a part in affecting these feelings of rootedness in our neoliberal city-state. I present evidence that belonging is navigated differently across ethnic lines, and that being employed influences the way that youths perceive material wellbeing.
