Borrowing from Mowen and Spears’ (1999) hierarchal approach model to understanding the underlying psychological factors influencing compulsive buying, we will try to add to the existing knowledge by improving on the model. By extending the existing Mowen and Spears’ (1999) model, we hope to provide insights which would useful to the other researchers and the society in dealing and mitigating the negative effects, such as financial difficulty and distress to the compulsive buyer and family, brought about by compulsive buying
