A sonar system can detect targets by listening to the acoustic waves reflected from a target. However, detection performance of a sonar system is severely affected due the backscattering of waves from the surrounding environment. In shallow waters, one of the most important contributors to the reverberation is the backscattering from the seabed. The objective of this project is to develop a statistical model of backscattering of signals from the seabed. Four major tasks have been achieved in this project.Master of Science (Signal Processing
