The fodder balances of the member countries differ considerably. These differences are elucidated in the publications of the SOEC. According to a computation in terms of feed units, 44 % of the feeding stuffs consumed in the EEC in 1 978-79 come from grassland and meadows; in Ireland however, this percentage is twice as high whereas in Denmark it is only half as high. The «animal feedingstuffs, marketable» (such as cereals, manioc, oilcakes and by-products from processing industries) have a very different share in the average feed ration composition of the individual countries. Compared to a EEC average of 44 %, Ireland and the Netherlands make up the extremes with respectively 1 6 and 64 %. The use of oilcakes is particularity important in certain countries. According to a computation in terms of crude protein, oilcakes have an important share of total protein supply in Denmark (34 %), in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany (24-27%). In France, oilcakes represent only 12% of the protein consumption. Globally, the feed ressources of the EEC have increased with 14% between 1970/71 and 1977/78, the relatively heavy increase of imported feeding stuffs is greatly responsible for this situation. During the nine-year-period under consideration, the feed ressources and the livestock have had almost identical increases on an overall basis. The average feed ration per livestock unit was only slightly higher in 1977/78 than in 1 970/71. The yield per livestock unit however has been considerably increased which indicates that the livestock feeding efficiency has been further improved.Les bilans fourragers des Etats membres se présentent très différemment. Selon un calcul en unités fourragères, 44 % du fourrage consommé en 1 978/79 dans les C E sont fournis par les prairies et pâturages ; mais en Irlande, ce chiffre est deux fois plus élevé et au Danemark.il n'est que de la moitié. Les «Aliments pour animaux, commercialisables» (tels que les céréales, le manioc, les tourteaux et les déchets provenant du processus de transformation de l'industrie alimentaire) entrent dans la composition des rations fourragères moyennes nationales dans des proportions très diverses. Par rapport à une moyenne communautaire de 44 %, l'Irlande et les Pays-Bas constituent les deux extrêmes avec des chiffres respectifs de 16 à 64 %. L'utilisation de tourteaux est particulièrement importante pour certains pays. D'après le calcul en matières azotées totales, ils contribuent grandement à la fourniture globale dès protéines au cheptel au Danemark (34 %), ainsi qu'en Belgique, aux Pays-Bas et en RFA (24 - 27 %). En France, les tourteaux ne fournissent que 12 % de la consommation de protéines. Au total, les ressources fourragères de la Communauté ont augmenté de 14% entre 1970/71 et 1977/78, l'augmentation relativement forte des apports en fourrages étrangers y ayant été pour beaucoup. Au cours des neuf années étudiées, les ressources fourragères et le cheptel ont connu, en moyenne communautaire, des augmentations presque identiques. La ration fourragère moyenne par unité de gros bétail n'était, en 1 978/79, que très faiblement supérieure à celle de 1 970/71 . Néanmoins, il a été possible d'accroître nettement le rendement par unité de gros bétail. Ceci indique que l'efficacité de l'alimentation du bétail s'est encore améliorée.Thiede Günther.
