Ultrasound is a relatively old technology utilised that is still heavily used in the field of Non-Destructive Test (NDT). Technology in terms of data acquisition and presentation have greatly improved, however processing of these data still requires much human intervention. Ultrasonic Scans of welding defects usually contain vast amounts of information which have to be processed and assessed by NDT experts for classification. Hence there is at present a demand to reduce time, human errors and expertise in the overall classification process.
