La place des foires et marchés parmi les pôles français de commercialisation des produits agricoles

The role of fairs and markets among the poles for the commercialisation of farm produce in France - The decline or the disappearance of a considerable number of traditional agricultural fairs and markets and the appearance of new forms of commercialisation since the end of the second world war, now enable us, retrospectively, to understand better the importance of exchanges based on the physical meeting of rural and urban participants. The economic role of the market is accompanied by a social function, by habits that express aspirations, the need for human contact, conceptions of life in relation to others, socio-economic superiorities and situations of conflict. In opposition to the integrated - so called « abstract » - markets, which tend to monopolize agricultural production, to level down and standardize its commercialization, and to wrest from the farming world a certain control of economic mechanisms, these exist organized physical markets which provide a modern solution to the problems raised by small-scale farms and which remain the expression of a desire to preserve regional, sub-regional or local vitality.Le déclin ou la disparition d'un nombre important de foires et marchés agricoles traditionnels et l'apparition de nouvelles formes de commercialisation, depuis la fin de la seconde guerre mondiale, permettent à présent le recul aidant, de mieux saisir i'intérêt d'échanges fondés sur des lieux de rencontre physique d'acteurs ruraux urbains. Le rôle économique du marché se double en effet d'une fonction sociale, d'un ensemble d'habitudes qui expriment des aspirations, des nécessités de contact humain, des conceptions de vie relationnelle, des dominances socio-économiques et des situations conflictuelles. Face aux marchés intégrés dits marchés abstraits qui tendent à monopoliser la production agricole, à niveler et à standardiser sa commercialisation, à arracher au monde paysan un certain contrôle des mécanismes économiques, s'imposent des marchés physiques organisés qui apportent une solution moderne aux problèmes posés par la petite ou moyenne entreprise et qui demeurent l'expression d'une volonté de maintien de la vitalité régionale, sous-régionale ou locale.Wackermann G.
