High-performance voltage- and current- source inverters (VSIs and CSIs) are the most important components in various direct current (DC)/alternating current (AC) conversion utilities. However, with the development of the renewable energy, the traditional VSIs and CSIs have been seriously restricted due to their narrow obtainable output voltage range property. In 2002, an impedance-source power inverter (termed Z-source inverter (ZSI)) was proposed to overcome the limitations and barriers in traditional VSIs and CSIs.
