A deployable deorbiting sail is a technology design aiming to remove defunct satellites and other space debris from orbit, thereby reducing the risk of collisions with operational spacecraft. The deorbiting sail works by using its drag force of the Earth’s atmosphere to slow down and lower its altitude and eventually disintegrate the defunct satellites. The sail will be stowed during the launch and deployed once the satellite reaches its destination. It is projected that over 2,600 nanosatellites will be launched into the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) over the next five years [1].
