There is an increase in awareness on the importance of providing palliative care as palliative care is closely related to the patients’ sense of dignity. However, the current palliative care system in Singapore focuses primarily on physical aspects, neglecting patients’ psychological, emotional and spiritual needs. Additionally, the study of concept of dignity is scant in Singapore and there is a lack of definite understanding as to what factors contribute to elderly end-of-life patients’ sense of dignity.
