The tumulus X of Freyssinel which was excavated in the early 1930s by Dr. Charles Morel, enclosed two sepulchres. The most recent one comprised of a dual inhumation dating from the Early Iron Age, whereas the lower level of the tomb corresponds to a group cremation of the Late Neolithic. The first sepulchre is of great interest concerning European Neolithic. Moreover, apart from an important ensemble of copper objects, the excavations revealed the remains of carbonized braided hair which are still one of the earliest of this kind discovered on the Old Continent.
