In this paper, individual particle analysis by automated scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) was used to assess the size-resolved information of composition, size distribution, complex refractive index, and mixing state of mineral dust aerosol particles collected using different passive and active samplers. In the study, over 120,000 particles from 53 samples were analyzed. Results show that dust particles are the dominating mineral particle type during this campaign, comprising different classes of silicates, Si-rich (quartz-like), Ca-rich (calcite-like), CaMg-rich (dolomite-like), and CaS-rich (gypsum-like).
