The 1985 Accident Summary Report summarizes the number of accidents at intersections throughout the metropolitan area to determine possible locations for improvement. The number of total accidents at a location is used with the traffic count to derive an accidents per million entering vehicles ratio which is the basis of the ranking system. This is referred to as the ACC/MEV ratio. The accident information for this report is from the Iowa DOT ALAS (Accident Location Analysis System) system and entered into a computerized data file. Traffic count information is based on the most recent counts by Iowa DOT, Polk County, and the various cities in the area. Counts were estimated for some locations using counts from the closest intersections
