ABSTRACT In 1951, a chance discovery revealed five vessels placed one inside the other, two polished axes, one in flint the other in hardstone with concave sides, all placed in what appears to have been a pit. These artefacts were dispersed but a happy coincidence has brought together one of the vessels and the axe with concave sides. Because of its association with the ceramic ware, this type of axe, which is found principally in Aquitaine, can thus be chronologically situated to between the middle and the beginning of the recent Neolithic.
