L'environnement des occupations humaines au Paléolithique moyen récent dans la France sptentrionale

ABSTRACT The development of research on loessic sequences of the last glacial- interglacial cycle now allows to localize the numerous sites of the recent phase of the middle paleolithic of northern France in a detailed strati- graphic frame. In the same way, the study of the most complete pedosedimentary sequences leads to a first reconstitution of the paleoenvironments. The distribution of the sites in the three types of climatic phases : Inter- glacial, Early-glacial and Pleniglacial, is characterized by a very clear concentration of the occupations in the first two phases of the climatic cycle. If one takes into account the sedimentary context of each settlement, it is obvious that this repartition of the occupations depends on the type of climatic conditions and is not related to a problem of differential conservation of the artefacts.RESUME Le développement des recherches sur les séquences lœs- siques du dernier cycle glaciaire-in- terglaciaire permet actuellement de situer les nombreux gisements de la phase récente du Paléolithique moyen du Nord de la France au sein d'un cadre chronostratigraphique détaillé. Parallèlement, l'étude des séquences pédo-sédimentaires les plus complètes débouche sur une première reconstitution des paléoenvironnements. La distribution des gisements à l'intérieur des trois grands types de phases climatiques définis : Interglaciaire, Début-glaciaire et Plénigla- ciaire, se caractérise par une très nette concentration des occupations dans les deux premières phases du cycle. La prise en compte du contexte sédimentaire de chaque gisement montre que cette répartition des occupations est liée au type de conditions climatiques et non pas à un problème conservation différentielle des artefacts.Antoine Pierre.
