The Author summarizes the various physical methods for enhancing the transdermal penetration of pharmaceuticals, and sonophoresis use low frequency effectively in enhancing drug transportation. Sonophoresis also promotes absorption of lower molecular weight drugs through the skin which enables faster and safer transfer to the blood stream. These are some advantages of sonophoresis which include its noninvasive nature, little damage to the skin, simple operation, high universality, and suitability for almost all drugs. Low-intensity ultrasound can use its mechanical, thermal, and broader physical, chemical, and biochemical effects to treat disease or injury without damaging, destroying, or degenerating human tissue. Ultrasound travels through tissues in the body, several physical effects can be used to trigger drug transdermal delivery directly or in combination with ultrasound to trigger drug release mediated by biomaterials.
