Background: Geriatric depression becoming a serious concern worldwide, but no studies addressed depression among patients attending outpatient department of a tertiary geriatric care hospital in Bangladesh. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in face-to-face interview using the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15) to measure depression among 230 elderly outpatients (60–80 years old) who visited the hospital for medical reasons in Dhaka city; a variety of socio-demographic, behavioral, and psycho-social variables as well as history of chronic diseases were assessed to detect factors associated with depression.
