‘Landscapes 2001 – 2003’ (ISBN - 978-1904587385) published by Photobook publisher Dewi Lewis in 2008 comprised a sequenced selection of 48 medium format analogue colour photographs of landscapes made in the UK, Ireland, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Italy, Greece and Germany. There was also an essay by leading art critic, writer, broadcaster and curator Sacha Craddock. Most of Billingham’s photography up to the point of making this work was based in locations familiar to him since childhood. A key aim of this new landscape work was to expose the artists practice to new locations for the first time.
