Conventional leadership development fails to acknowledge that leadership can be traumatic, or that leadership development has a duty to help leaders grow through their traumatic leadership experiences. Clinical research shows that victims of profoundly destabilising experiences can grow when they shift their narrative-shaping and exploration mechanisms (Calhoun & Tedeschi, 2013, 2014).
