In the french southern Alps the Digne subalpine thrust («Nappe de Digne») and the neighbouring Valensole neogene basin have been affected during the Quaternary period by an important compressive tectonic activity which is in continuation of that of the upper Pliocene but in slightly different compressive direction (N 030). The quaternary deformations (axis N 120 - N 140) have been registered both by the subalpine or neogene substratum and the alluvial terraces of the Bléone and the Bès rivers. The whole pattern of the regional deformation which allowed to settle the final front thrust can be clearly shown by the longitudinal profile of the Bléone pleistocene alluvial terraces.
