Spectral distortions reported by Cheung (J. Chem. Phys. 76, 1248 (1983)) in the NMR spectra of solids following pulse sequences of the Goldman-Shen type have been investigated and found to result from the generation of multiple quantum coherences. It is demonstrated that they can be removed by appropriate phase cycling.</p
