Formations continentales pléistocenes et paléoenvironnements sédimentaires dans le bassin de Ksabi (Moyenne Moulouya, Maroc)

The sequential analysis of pleistocene detritic formations of an and basin in onental Marocco allows us to define a morphosedi- mentary cycle and to set a model of climatosedimentary evolution. The main faciès are : 1) alluvial deposits of the main nver filling a paleovalley with detritic sequences and braided nvers faciès, 2) alluvial fan deposits spread by tributary wadis, 3) alluvial or colluvial piemont or slopes deposits, 4) calcretes. The evolution gets its rhythm from alternating cutting and filling process. The sedimentation phase takes place in a rhexistasic context. The complete morphosedimentary cycle is composed of 1) linear cutting, 2) deposition in the mam river valley with distant longitudinal drift, 3) decrease in alluvial process and increase in lateral drift : alluvial fan deposits, piemont and slopes deposits, 4) carbonate limited redistribution, 5) new linear cutting causing stepped terrace. If isostasy can explain river hollowing and if neotectonic can account for difference in the basin morphology and sedimentary units disposition, repetitive morphosedimentary cycles involve a climatic control. The rhexistasic phase result from an arid crisis and frost action marks on the piemont indicate a climatic cooling during these arid period. Thus, the active morphogenesis phases correspond to a cold and arid climatic context in the continental basin and not to a pluvial context like the North Africa classical model.L'étude des formations continentales détritiques du bassin de Ksabi a porté sur la caractérisation de leur faciès, de leur géométrie, la reconnaissance d'environnements sédimentaires : séquences fluviatiles, éventails alluviaux, formations de piêmont-glacis, calcrètes. L'évolution morphosédimentaire est rythmée par l'alternance de phases d'incision et de remblaiement. La sédimentation résulte d'une dynamique à caractère rhexistasique montrant le passage d'accumulations proprement fluviatiles à des accumulations de piémont dans un système de type endoréique. Bien que les facteurs structuraux ne soient pas à négliger, le caractère répétitif du cycle morphosédimentaire et les caractères des séquences infèrent une commande climatique : des phases arides froides sont responsables des épisodes rhexistasiques de morphogénèse-sédimentation.Lefèvre David.
