On Japanese Pantheism The idea of a consubstantial relation between the national territory and the gods lies at the very basis of Japanese particularism. Though today it is often adorned with scientific arguments, that tenacious belief in Japanese uniqueness proves to have no other model but the self-reference contained in the myth of origin of the country which is also the ideological support of the imperial institution.
