L'actuel renouveau d'intérêt pour l'oeuvre de Troeltsch

The present renewal of interest for Troeltsch In 1921 Edmond Vermeil described Troeltsch as the most striking personality in Protestant theology at the time. More recently, Jean Séguy caracterized Troeltsch as theologian, historian, moralist, sociologist and politician. In fact, the renewal of interest for his work addresses the interdisciplinary articulation of the cultural sciences. Troeltsch's theological interrogation raised the question of the compabitility of religion with modern science and culture. The question of the absoluteness of christianism in the perspective of the history of religions was crucial to this debate. The answer for Troeltsch was only to be found in a general theory of culture.Dès 1921, Edmond Vermeil voyait en Troeltsch la personnalité la plus marquante de la théologie protestante de l'époque. Plus récemment, Jean Séguy l'a caractérisé à la fois comme théologien, historien, philosophe, moraliste, sociologue et homme politique. Aussi, l'actuel renouveau d'intérêt pour son œuvre vise avant tout l'articulation interdisciplinaire des sciences de la culture. L'interrogation théologique de Troeltsch a porté d'emblée sur la compatibilité de la religion avec la science et la culture modernes. Au centre du débat se trouvait alors la question de l'absoluité du christianisme dans l'horizon de l'histoire des religions.
