Local work markets in Alsace - Long spared the problem of unemployment, Alsace has been affected in the course of the last few years by a significant decline in employment. It remains, however, together with the Ile-de-France, the region the least striken with unemployment. In the most urbanized areas, Strasbourg, Mulhouse and Colmar, the rates are the highest and the frequency of entry into unemployment the greatest. The old, traditional industries were modernized in part up until the 1980s, benefiting from European construction. The tertiary sector also profited of this construction.
