The Prospects of French Foreign Trade - In this issue Économie et Statistique publishes the report of the « Committee for the Study of the Prospects of the French Trade Balance over the Next Ten Years ». This committe was formed, under the chairmanship of Mr. Jacques Mayer, at the request of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Trade. Its conclusions were presented to the government on February 15, 1978. Faced with the rise in energy costs and a slow-down in world-wide growth accompanied by increased competition in foreign markets, above all in industrial countries, France should expand its exports in the coming years without having recourse either to competitive devaluations or to an excessively high growth rate.
