Regional gaps in infant mortality - Resumed from a communication given to the 5th Colloque national de démographie (Nice, April 1976) the present article analyzes recent infant mortality (children born in 1970, 1971 and 1972) and sets forth the regional gaps observed : 13,8 infant deaths, under one year of age, in Ile-de-France, out of 1 000 live-born children, 27,1 in Corsica and an average of 16,6 for the whole of France. Regional infant mortality has decreased over a 20-year period but regional gaps remain comparatively important. The traditional North-South opposition is substituted by North-East South-West opposition.
