The piedmont of reliefs in the district of Montpellier (area of Mosson and Vendargues) is held by a huge detrical formation. The stratigraphic and paleontologic study allows to date these formations as far back as the lower Pleistocene. In Languedoc, the faunal change distinguishing the plio-pleistocene boundary is beginning, in fact, in these sediments wich are in other hand upper stratigraphically than astian sands and horizon with Potamides Basteroti. The study of paleosoil located on the high surface of Mosson, shows that separation into two layers, one fluvio-manrine, the other alluvial, kept on the geological map of France for gravels of Mosson, is without purpose.
