The adsorption behavior of basic compounds in practical vacuum gas oil is quantitatively analyzed on amorphous silica-alumina with acid sites, mesopores and thermal stability. Time course of adsorption capacity was found to be controlled by kinetics but not by equilibrium. The rate of adsorption was found to have pseudo second-order but not pseudo first-order kinetics, indicating that the adsorption rate was mainly controlled by the diffusion of large molecules. The particle size did not influence the adsorption quantity at equilibrium, whereas the smaller particle size increased the adsorption rate.
