From recent palaeoanthropological researches, carried out into four huge gallo-roman and merovingian cemeteries in Low-Normandy, two evidences seem firmly established about the ethnical history of this country : — most studied skeleton belong to the slender mediterranean type which was prevalent in the country since the neolithic age ; — the population morphology remained homogeneous during the whole merovingian period. After the VIIIth century, the data are far more uncertain.
