The skin of predynastic mummies has been studied by histological techniques. Study of the skin of dried and mummified bodies is likely to be of interest from paleo- pathological and anthropological view point. The research has been done with the aim to evidentiate disease and particularly parasitosys and to search information that may be related to skin colour for population genetics and climate adaptation. Some difficulty in the study of skin has been found because the epidermic layers are often destroied. Nevertheless in some sections it was possible to observe the different layers of epidermis ; specific stainings allowed to ascertain also the presence, in cytoplasmatic region of basal cells, of granules of mélanine.
