Based on an article in the October 13, 1968, Dissent column of the Detroit News. Should school teachers, or any other group of public employees, be allowed to strike? Is the right to strike necessary for effective collective bargaining? Are there feasible alternative ways to deal with labor disputes? All these questions lost their theoretical flavor and became intensely practical for many parents of school-age children when a rash of teachers\u27 strikes broke out in Detroit, New York, and other cities throughout the country.
