The aim of this narrative literature review is to assess the clinical benefitts of using hyaluronic acid in surgical treatment of periodontal regeneration of infrabony defects. In vitro and animal studies were first described, then human studies were analyzed on clinical parameters: probing depth, clinical attachment gain and height of gingival recessions. The analysis of these data shows beneficial effects of the use of hyaluronic acid on clinical attachment gain, probing depth and height of recessions during surgical treatments. The use of hyaluronic acid in the regeneration of infrabony periodontal defects seems to be a serious alternative, however additional human studies must be carried out in order to clarify these initial results.Le b...
