Epoxy resins are used in civil engineering to ensure the durability of concrete structures. In use, they are subject to both chemical (oxidation) and physical (structural relaxation) aging. The objective of the DUREVE project is to develop a methodology to estimate the lifetime from a multi-scale study of the degradation. The objective of this thesis work was to study structural relaxation aging in order to understand how a thermo-oxidized system undergoes structural relaxation and what effects this may cause. Structural relaxation kinetics of epoxy systems were studied by fast scanning calorimetry, while molecular mobility was studied by dielectric spectroscopy.
