Obesity has become a common health issue that impacts patients throughout their life span, including the pediatric population. A literature review was conducted to identify causes and best evidence-based practices for treating and preventing obesity in pediatric populations, leading to the question of which approach should be developed to address pediatric obesity. Based on the findings, an evidence-based policy and procedure was developed and implemented in a rural health care facility with a concern for its obese pediatric population. The policy and procedure served as a guide for healthcare providers involved in identifying, assessing, and treating weight-associated issues in the pediatric population.
