This dissertation locates the presence of God within benevolent human action. It therefore has two sides. On the side of the divine, we can discern God\u27s presence only by his action in human history. On the side of the human, we discern a yearning which can be satisfied only by union with the divine. Divine presence and the human person are thus inextricably bound. The spiritual terms of person and presence are transformed into the philosophical terms of phenomenology and ontology to allow technical study. The phenomenological study of the human allows rich humanistic notions to aid in understanding human action.
