An Analysis of the Problems & Equipment Associated with the On-Site Storage and Handling of Refuse Materials

Major emphasis in improving solid waste management practices has been generally limited to the public and private systems of collection and disposal serving the entire community. Far too few studies have been directed at the various individual types of dwelling units and their respective waste system requirements, \u27This paper is designed to investigate the waste requirements for the individual type dwelling unit, including those comprising a planned development type complex. With increasing domestic waste production, new devices and methods are needed as solutions for the on-site storage and on-site processing of waste materials at the point of generation in the dwelling unit and within the planned development complex. It is hoped that this paper will aid in identifying some of the solid waste problems associated with the dwelling units to be considered here to portray the equipment presently available on the market to cope with these problems, to select what is thought to be the most feasible practices for today\u27s storage problems, and to indicate where continued engineering study is required to solve some of the shortcomings of today\u27s onsite storage problems
