SUMMARY. — The margins of Byzantine Greek manuscripts, in particular those of Euclid's Elements, are copiously annotated. After briefly recalling the nature, sorts and functions of these scholia, this paper aims to justify an examination based on the history of the text and its use. The results obtained by J. L. Heiberg are summarized.
