L'introduction en France des idées de l'écologie scientifique américaine dans l'entre-deux-guerres/The introduction in France, between the two World Wars, of the ideas of American scientific ecology

SUMMARY. — From the early XIXth century, studies of plant associations in relation to their different environments arose in geobotany, next to classical studies of species distribution. This trend in research was perpetuated and may explain some characteristics of the reception in France of American scientific ecology. Thus, during the interwar years, the Zurich-Montpellier school of phytosociology made possible important progress in bringing to the fore the discontinuities in vegetation. However, it hindered ecological research from the approach of plant associations dynamics, hence to ideas in systems ecology, while works on these subjects were successfully carried out at the same time in the USA. Nevertheless, several researchers (geobotanists, microbiologists or biocoenologists) worked within a conceptual framework that was in harmony with American studies on biotic communities.RÉSUMÉ. — Dès le commencement du XIXe siècle, des études portant sur les relations des groupements végétaux avec leurs différents milieux apparaissent en géobotanique, à côté des études traditionnelles sur la distribution des espèces. Cette tradition de recherche se perpétue et peut expliquer certaines particularités de la réception de l'écologie américaine en France. Ainsi, entre les deux guerres, l'école de sociologie végétale de Zurich-Montpellier rend possible ďimportants progrès dans la mise en évidence des discontinuités de la végétation. Elle représente néanmoins un obstacle à l'approche de la dynamique des groupements végétaux, donc à la pensée systémique en écologie, alors que des travaux sur ces thèmes sont accomplis parallèlement et de manière féconde aux Etats-Unis. Cependant, quelques chercheurs — géobotanistes, microbiologistes ou biocénoticiens — travaillent dans le cadre d'une problématique se situant en harmonie avec les études américaines sur les communautés biotiques.Acot Pascal, Drouin Jean Marc.
