Fertility Decline in the World. The article is an overview of the geographical aspects of the demographic transition, and more precisely of the change front high to low fertility. Firstly, the general aspects of the phenomenon are described with their three main periods, their basically cultural character, their links with the movement of ideas and their modes of diffusion within the socio-spatial scale. The decline is examined in the Third World countries where it is in process and where its impact varies considerably from one country to another.
