Nitrogen is essential for crop production. It is a critical macronutrient for plant growth and development. However, excessive application of nitrogen fertilizer is not only a waste of resources but also pollutes the environment. An effective approach to solving this problem is to breed rice varieties with high nitrogen use efficiency (NUE).
