Pendant le Miocène supérieur, la Terre a connu de profonds changements, incluant un refroidissement marqué, possiblement une diminution de la pCO2 atmosphérique, l’expansion des écosystèmes utilisant la photosynthèse C4, et la mise en place de glaciations éphémères dans l’hémisphère nord.
