Characterization and modelling of drying shrinkage in the process of microextrusion of a ceramic paste

La microextrusion est une technique de fabrication additive basée sur l'extrusion d'une pâte céramique. Lors de la fabrication, le séchage qui s'opère s'accompagne de retraits dimensionnels qui peuvent être à l'origine de défauts comme des déformations ou des fissures. Un modèle multiphysique par éléments finis du séchage prenant en compte le retrait a été développé et permet d'obtenir des prédictions réalistes du séchage de produits céramiques. Des méthodes optiques de suivi du retrait ont été développées, permettant d'étudier le séchage de produits obtenus par microextrusion à différentes échelles (d'un cordon extrudé à l'échelle d'une pièce). Une anisotropie du retrait de séchage dans les produits a été mise en évidence, et plusieurs causes ont été identifiées. Enfin, une méthode de suivi en temps réel du retrait a été proposée, offrant ainsi la possibilité de contrôler le séchage de manière à réduire l'apparition de défauts. Une preuve du concept de l'utilisation du machine learning pour l'identification de la fin du retrait est présentée, montrant ainsi le potentiel de ces nouvelles technologies sur ce champs d'applications.Microextrusion is an additive manufacturing technique for complex shaped objects. After extrusion of a ceramic paste, drying involves dimensional shrinkage that can be the cause of defects such as deformations or cracks. A finite element multiphysics model of drying taking into account shrinkage has been developed to predict the behaviour of the ceramic product. Optical methods for monitoring shrinkage have been developed, making it possible to study the drying of products obtained by microextrusion at different scales (from an extruded cord to the scale of a full product). Anisotropy of drying shrinkage in products has been demonstrated, and several causes have been identified. Finally, a real-time shrinkage monitoring method has been proposed, thus offering the possibility of controlling the drying for optimisation while avoiding conditions yielding defects. A proof of concept of the use of machine learning for the identification of the end of shrinkage is presented, thus showing the potential of new technologies in industrial application
