Great Britain and the North Sea oil and gas. Energy consumption is quickly changing in Great Britain : a recent recovery in the use of coal, a slight decrease for oil and a strong increase for natural gas. The great bulk of gas still comes from the « old » gasfields of the southern part of the North Sea but northern fields (particularly Brent) contribute more and more. Gas is still importee, from Algeria and the Norwegian sector of the sea (Frigg). Oilfields to the East of the Scottish coastline have made Britain one of the great oil producers of the world, but the country is both exporting and importing crude oil. Oil revenues have a strong influence on the balance of trade, the strenght of the currency and the financing of the country's desindustrialisation.La structure de la consommation d'énergie se modifie rapidement en Grande-Bretagne: reprise récente du charbon, économies de pétrole et surtout fort accroissement de la consommation de gaz naturel. Ce dernier provient pour l'essentiel des « anciens » gisements du Sud de la mer du Nord, mais les gisements du Nord (Brent en particulier) sont en progrès. Une partie du gaz consommé est importé d'Algérie et du secteur norvégien de la mer du Nord. Grâce aux gisements situés à l'Est de l'Ecosse, la Grande-Bretagne est devenue un des principaux producteurs mondiaux de pétrole. Elle est à la fois importatrice et exportatrice de brut. Les revenus du pétrole ont des effets importants sur la balance commerciale, la parité de la monnaie et sur le financement de la désindustrialisation.Moindrot Claude.
