La 56e excusrion interuniversitaire. Val d'Aoste - Milan - Tessin (octobre 1973)

The 56th inter-university trip : Valle d'Aosta, Milan, Ticino. The 56th inter-university geographical tour took place between October 14 and 19, 1973, in the Valle d'Aosta, Milan and Ticino. So it was devoted to the study of two mountainous regions turned to the Po flat and of a large city. The Valle d'Aosta, located at the junction of Western and Central Alps, is the smallest administrative region in Italy. However it is confronted to economic changes difficult to get along with. In the very heart of the wealthiest economic region in Italy, Milan is the economic capital. It owes its power to exceptional geographic (European crossroads, energetic wealth) and historic (banks, trade) conditions : It bases its power upon its rapid industrial development, its financial hegemony and the pre-eminence of its intellectual and scientific potientality. So its zone of influence spreads itself largely on the Lombard provinces, even on some Piemontese ones. Ticino is the only Swiss canton entirely located on the southern slope of the Alps. It has been very influenced by the Italian language and culture while being jealous of its independance. Its location on a great transalpine road gives it also some original features strenghtened by the opposition between the northern part — more mountainous —, and the southern part which is padan. The economic evolution of this land has however never freed itself front the ambiguity of its situation.La 56e excursion interuniversitaire s'est déroulée du 14 au 19 octobre 1973, en vallée d'Aoste, à Milan et en Tessin. Elle a donc été consacrée à l'étude de deux régions montagnardes tournées vers la plaine du Pô et d'une grande métropole. La vallée d'Aoste, à la jonction des Alpes occidentales et centrales, est la plus petite des régions administratives italiennes. C'est une cellule montagnarde originale par sa position de carrefour et son particularisme symbolisé par la langue française et l'autonomie. Elle est cependant aux prises avec des mutations économiques qu'elle assume avec peine. Située en plein cœur de la plus riche région économique de l'Italie, Milan est la capitale économique du pays. Sa puissance, elle la doit à des conditions exceptionnelles, géographiques (carrefour européen, richesse énergétique) et historiques (banques, commerce). Elle la fonde sur une expansion industrielle rapide, une hégémonie financière et la prééminence de son potentiel intellectuel et scientifique. Aussi sa zone d'influence s'étend-elle profondément sur les provinces lombardes, voire sur certaines provinces piémontaises. Le Tessin est le seul canton suisse situé entièrement sur le versant méridional des Alpes. Il a été profondément imprégné par la culture et la langue italienne tout en étant jaloux de son indépendance. Sa position sur une grande route transalpine lui confère aussi des caractères originaux renforcés par une opposition entre une partie septentrionale plus montagneuse et une partie méridionale d'appartenance padane.
